CCAS Pet Education Initiative

Teaching Compassion, One Classroom at a Time!

Cape Coral Animal Shelter is proud to launch the Pet Education Initiative, a heartwarming and hands-on outreach program that brings experienced volunteer educators into local schools to teach children how to care for pets with kindness, respect, and responsibility.

At the heart of our program is the delightful debut curriculum, “Doggie Do’s and Don’ts as Told by Cadence the Dog” — a charming and educational story written by Robin Lapre and brought to life with vibrant illustrations by Isabella Orozco.

Through the eyes (and paws!) of Cadence the Dog, students explore real-life pet care lessons in a way that’s both fun and unforgettable.

This interactive experience isn’t just about learning — it’s about engaging! Kids laugh, listen, ask questions, and even act out key concepts, all while building empathy and understanding for our furry friends.

Whether it’s teaching proper dog handling, understanding pet emotions, or learning what pets need to stay happy and healthy, our Pet Education Initiative is creating a future full of compassionate pet owners — one classroom at a time.

Because when we teach kids to care for animals, we’re shaping a kinder world for all.
